About this Course

This fully online, one-day workshop aims to provide all care workers within Designated Centres for Older People with the knowledge and skills to implement and follow an effective Safeguarding process.

For this purpose, the programme provides an appropriate framework for Safeguarding in line with a holistic and human-centred approach. The findings of a Safeguarding review completed by the HSE as well as relevant examples of findings identified by HIQA help deepen learners’ understanding.

Enhance Care Quality: Regulation & HIQA Findings in Focus

The curriculum covers the regulatory requirements pertaining to Safeguarding, focusing especially on HIQA’s compliance expectations as per the Judgement Support Framework.

Starting with the FREDA principles, the training introduces a comprehensive approach to Safeguarding measures. It further addresses appropriate responses to concerns or allegations of abuse, referring to the findings of the Safeguarding review for context. Importantly, the workshop also incorporates the Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act and the new HIQA Safeguarding Assessment-Judgement Framework for Designated Centres for Older People.

Beneficial for All Care Staff

We recommend this training for those working in PIC or deputy roles as well as CNMs, staff nurses, and healthcare assistants. Upon completion, learners will understand the legislation, regulation and guidance surrounding Safeguarding, and the required governance model for protection from abuse. They will know the required proactive and reactive measures, and how the Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act impacts services. Identifying key areas of non-compliance in Safeguarding and protection is a further skill covered in the workshop.
