Develop Expertise in Clinical Care for the Older Person in Residential Facilities

The COVID-19 pandemic brought residential care facilities for older people into sharp focus, unearthing distinct challenges for healthcare professionals in these complex settings. There is now an opportunity to build on our knowledge and the agility displayed during this time of crisis to advance the care of older people in Ireland.

The Certificate in Clinical Care for Residential Facilities covers clinical care of the older person, including the management of dementia, therapeutics, the prescribing and de-prescribing of medication where appropriate and end-of-life care. You will also gain an understanding of best practice when communicating with residents, families, and carers and when working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

It also highlights the role technology plays in quality and risk management, and the ethical and legal issues faced by those caring for the older population is emphasised throughout the programme.

Designed for Healthcare Professionals working in Ireland

The aim of this course is to enhance the care of older persons living in residential care facilities. It will ensure that healthcare professionals working in residential care facilities in Ireland have a good understanding of care of older persons and have good grounding in various aspects throughout end-of-life care, including therapeutics, communication, management of dementia etc. For full course content and learning outcomes, please refer to our downloadable Programme Manual.
