LHP Skillnet is proud to announce its continued collaboration with the Department of Health for the second year of this initiative, which was launched in 2024 to support private nursing homes in building nurse expertise in the specialised field of gerontology.
LHP Skillnet Partners with the Department of Health for Year Two of Gerontology Nursing Initiative
Following the remarkable success of year one, which saw 200 nurses from private nursing homes commenced a Postgraduate Diploma in Gerontology in one of the four partnering Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), we are thrilled to invite expressions of interest for the 2025 program.
This initiative underscores our commitment to advancing excellence in geriatric care and empowering nurses with the skills and knowledge they need to make a lasting impact in the lives of older adults.
Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Minister Butler, said:
“Enhancing the qualifications and expertise of staff working in nursing homes is central to improving the quality of care delivered to nursing home residents, and I’m confident this collaboration will help to better facilitate the requirements of the nursing home sector.”
“This funding initiative was developed as a response to recommendations from the COVID-19 Nursing Homes Expert Panel, and I welcome the collaboration with LHP Skillnet to deliver on this important initiative.
“I’m delighted my department will be working in partnership with Skillnet Ireland and LHP Skillnet to deliver on this partnership and would encourage all nursing homes to avail of this significant opportunity.”
