About this Course

This fully online, one-day workshop in Infection Prevention & Control aims to provide all residential care workers within a service with the knowledge and skills to implement and adhere to an effective regime.

For this purpose, the programme provides an appropriate framework for IPC and antimicrobial stewardship in line with a human rights-based approach. Examples of the types of findings identified by HIQA help deepen learners’ understanding. Equipped with this context, participants learn how to implement an effective Infection Prevention & Control regime to drive continuous improvement within their services.

Enhance Care Quality: Regulation & HIQA Findings in Focus

The curriculum covers the regulatory requirements pertaining to Infection Prevention & Control and antimicrobial stewardship and explains why they are important. It focuses especially on HIQA findings in relation to IPC and HIQA’s compliance expectations as per the Judgement Support Framework.

An effective Infection Prevention & Control regime within a service needs to be carried by all members of staff in different ways depending on their roles. This training is suitable for various residential care staff and provides them with a solid overview of what needs to be done to minimise and manage the risk of infection. It further covers staff education and training requirements for IPC. Most importantly, it incorporates the new HIQA Assessment-Judgment Framework for Infection Prevention & Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship.

Beneficial for All Care Staff

We recommend this training for those working in PIC or deputy roles as well as CNMs, staff nurses, and healthcare assistants. Upon completion, learners will understand the legislation, regulation and guidance surrounding Infection Prevention & Control. They will know the types of findings identified by HIQA in relation to IPC, and what they can do to reduce the risk of infection and promote antimicrobial stewardship within their role.
